ADHESIVE DERM BANDAGE: Leave on for 1-5 days to your comfort, or until the bandage seal is peeling up off the skin to the point of exposing the fresh tattoo. Weeping and pooling of ink, plasma, and blood under the bandage is expected. It is ok for the bandaged area to get wet while showering, but minimize this as much as possible to avoid water leaking into the bandage.
PLASTIC WRAP OR PAD BANDAGE: Leave on until you get home, for a few hours, or possibly overnight as instructed by your tattooer.
When you're ready to remove bandaging, do so gently in the shower or right before you shower. Wash your tattoo very gently with unscented liquid soap (Dial orange, Dr. Bronner's unscented, etc.). Pat your tattoo dry with a paper towel or a clean towel and moisturize with a small amount of aquaphor/A&D or similar ointment. You can switch to a plain white unscented lotion (Cetaphil, CeraVe, Aveeno, Lubriderm, Eucerin, etc.) after a few days.
Wash and moisturize 1-2x daily for 1 week. Apply lotion as needed 1-3x daily until fully healed (2-3 weeks). Do not over-moisturize; remember, less is more.
Avoid swimming, soaking, or direct sun exposure until tattoo is fully healed.
Do not pick at, scratch, or use anything abrasive on a fresh tattoo. Always wash your hands before touching your new tattoo.
Please contact your tattooer directly with any questions or concerns, or message the shop at 412-550-5868!
DO wash your hands before cleaning your new piercing. Ibuprofen can be taken for the first few days to help minimize swelling.
DO use a Sterile Saline Wound Wash Spray (0.9% Sodium Chloride) to clean your new piercing as needed (recommended 1-2 times a day). Spray directly on your piercing and gently remove any debris on both sides of the jewelry using a cotton swab.
DON'T use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or antibacterial soap to clean your piercing. Any soaps used on the area should be gentle and contain no harsh chemicals, dyes, or perfumes. Be sure to fully rinse away any soap residue.
DON'T twist, slide, or sleep on your jewelry as all of these can cause irritation and prolong healing. Never pick at or try to remove scabbing around your piercing. Leave your jewelry in at all times! Even well-healed piercings can shrink or close up. Initial jewelry should be left in for at least 2 MONTHS before changing on your own.
DON'T apply makeup, lotions, ointments, or perfume on or near piercing. Piercings heal best when they are kept DRY. Avoid submerging your fresh piercing in water for 2 MONTHS (baths, hot tubs, ocean, etc).
DO remember to downsize your jewelry after initial swelling has reduced to ensure that your piercing heals correctly. It is standard to shorten the length on your jewelry 6-8 weeks after being pierced. Piercings that swell a lot may need multiple downsizes as they heal.
DO contact your piercer immediately if you are experiencing problems with your piercing such as irritation bumps, keloids, or infection. Please refrain from removing your jewelry and just walk in!
